A Good Soldier

"No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please Him that hath chosen hom to be a soldier." 2 Timothy 2:4

What does it mean to be a soldier? Your life is not your own. You rise in the morning, preparing for the day, unsure of what might come your way over the course of the next 24 hours. Your mind must be prepared, able to recognize the sights, sounds, and smells around you. What constitutes a real threat and what is merely a distraction? A soldier is trained to be alert, ready and watching. The world throws many distractions our way: relationships, work, bills, homes, cars, media and so forth.
What is a distraction? The affairs of this life that would try to throw a soldier's focus off where his eyes are meant to be. What is the remedy?

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore as many as be perfect be thus minded: and if in anything ye be otherwise minded God shall reveal even this unto you." Philippians 3:14-15

Press on! The ending phrase of verse 15, if I may paraphrase...if you don't get it, He will show you! That's a gentle teacher and loving Father! Our job is just to stay focused. Keep moving in the direction of the Light! Amen
